Plant of the Week 01/01/2020

European Pasqueflower Pulsatilla Vilgaris Zone 4-8

Tall, fuzzy stems rise above dense, green foliage to present a perfect backdrop for purple or dark purple flowers. It's easy to get distracted (in a good way) with the fuzziness of this plant which can vary from lightly fuzzy to extremely fuzzy.

Flowers resemble tulips until they open up to reveal bright yellow centers. Blooms appear in early spring. Once flowers are spent do not deadhead them so they can turn into seed pods, which will allow the plant to reseed itself.

Can reach 12" tall and wide. Plant in full to part sun. Prefers enriched soils but adapt to most well-drained soils. Water regularly for best growth, just be careful to not drown the plant.
