Question of the Week: Tackling Weeds After the Rain

Q: The recent rain has caused weeds to sprout all over my property. After pulling them up from the areas covered in river rock, what's the best way to keep them from coming back?

A: If there's no weed barrier under the rocks, the best approach is to remove the rocks, lay down a weed barrier, and then replace the rocks. If the removed rocks are mixed with dirt, consider getting new ones, as the dirt likely contains seeds that could cause future weed issues, even with a barrier in place.

Alternatively, you can use a product like Preen, which is designed to prevent weed seeds in the soil from germinating. While it won't eliminate weeds entirely, it can significantly reduce their presence.
